Beyond the Rift: A Perdition's Mouth Card Game is a cooperative adventure card game that narrates the events that take place after the heroes' successful adventures in Perdition's Mouth: Abyssal Rift. The base game features four different heroes, each with their own unique 26-card deck and special hero ability.
There are four campaigns in the core box, each with its own branching path of multiple scenarios. Each scenario has its own objectives and special actions. Combined with a variety of different enemy types, this makes each scenario a unique experience. Each hero has two basic resources at their disposal: action points and their hero deck.
In his hero deck, players will find a variety of action cards that determine what actions the heroes can perform. Playing a card costs action points, which can also be used to draw more cards, manipulate the position of enemies, and activate special abilities. The key to survival in Beyond the Rift is managing your resources of maps and action points while dealing with the numerous threats.
As the campaign progresses, players will find items that, when equipped, change the makeup of their hero deck. Most cards in each hero deck are assigned to a specific body part. Whenever a hero equips an item with that specific body part, the 3-4 associated cards are removed from their deck and replaced with 3-4 cards associated with that item. This gives players more powerful cards while also giving them the opportunity to adapt their deck to their play style and overcome the different challenges of different scenarios.
